Looking for Karate in Orillia?
Orillia Karate schools come and go, but you won’t find a better school than the Orillia Academy of Karate. Formerly known as Orillia YMCA Karate, we’ve been an institution in the Orillia area for 32 years. The closure of the YMCA has forced us to rebrand and relocate, but we’re still going strong and happy to accept new students.
Your ultimate goal in taking Karate classes might be for physical training, self-defense, weight loss, or simply to get out and meet new people. Whatever your reasons for joining, you will find our classes to be safe, fun and effective.
Safe, because we’re the only Dojo in town that’s non-contact. Sparring is always to be controlled and non-violent. So rest assured that you won’t have to suffer any physical punishment while training with us.
Karate is one of the most popular and well-known martial arts for good reason, practiced by 100 million people on five continents in 192 countries. Having developed out of a weaponless martial art, today it remains a means of fostering self-reliance and mental strength. The art itself incorporates a variety of self-defense techniques, as well as sparring and competitive elements, along with a certain philosophy that aims to make practitioners humble, confident, disciplined, and respectful.
And the more you learn, the more you realize there is to learn. It truly is an ‘art,’ and even Karate masters understand that it’s impossible to fully learn everything there is to learn about it.
By attending classes regularly and working hard you will find yourself improving in all aspects of your life.
At least, that’s the hope…
“Karate aims to build character, improve human behavior, and cultivate modesty; it does not, however, guarantee it.” ~ Yasuhiro Konishi (founder of Shindo Jinen-ryu Karate)
