Welcome to the Orillia Academy of Karate

Offering Traditional Martial Arts … Non-Contact!

orillia academy of karateWelcome to the Orillia Academy of Karate, where we pride ourselves on being friendly, family-oriented, and the perfect choice whether you’re a complete beginner or have trained elsewhere in the past.  Children over the age of ten are welcome.

Classes are highly disciplined, but fun, friendly, and supportive.

Karate is applicable in our everyday lives as it encompasses self-respect, respect toward others, responsibility, honesty, decisiveness, a positive self-image, developing the ability to speak and perform before a group, and, in time, compassion and gentleness.

KARATE EQUIPMENT:

In karate, students wear a white gi, it is our uniform. Although not required in the beginner classes, some students have requested to  purchase one. The white gi includes top, bottom, white belt and dojo crest for $60. We sew our own crest on the left side of the gi over the heart. Please see the sizing details below..

Your child will be participating in self defense and sparring. For these activities we wear hand guards as a safety precaution. Our dojo is NON-CONTACT, no violence or aggression. This means that there are no strikes to the body; with control, students aim and practice control and respect.  There will be light contact from blocking:  on the arm of the defender, on the arm or leg of the attacker. Students are matched with a partner of a similar size.  There have been no injuries at our dojo. Injuries from contact are a sign of a poorly run dojo with little or no respect.

Handguards will be provided for kinder and beginner classes.

You can purchase a pair for your child’s own use ( to keep) for $20

  • Handguards $20
  • Gi  $60
  • Gi+ handguards $80
